As someone who suffered from severe cystic acne when I was a teenager and young adult, I understand the pain of growing up insecure about facial skin. As a young female, I was very conscious of the reality of acne scarring.
The truth is, only the doctor can really treat severe acne. I know, because I tried many other ways. But my case was not the same as my brother’s, who did have some acne but it cleared right up after using the
Proactiv skin care lining. He stayed consistent with it until well into his late 20’s. Back then, the formulation needed to be ordered from the company, but now it is available in Edmonton in many places. There is a booth at
West Edmonton Mall that sells this near miracle lotion that has helped so many. If mail order is more convenient, then Proactiv can still be purchased the traditional way at
Proactiv’s website.
My journey was more of a medical one, so I had to get the right treatment. One clinic that I would recommend in Edmonton for dermatology is Searles Dermatology & Aesthetics practicing out of the dermatological hospital -
Keystone Dermatology Institute. They are located at 2377 111 Street NW Edmonton, AB T6J 5E5, and the office phone number is
Phone number(780) 424-4464.
However, if you want to get in to see a dermatologist, you must first give your family doctor this information and the doctor will make a referral. Dr. Searles was the past President of the Canadian Dermatology Association and is currently the President of
Pacific Dermatology Association. He has won numerous awards in dermatology and is known by many to be the best.
Another set of the good dermatologists also work out of the Keystone Dermatology Institute. Christopher P. Keeling BSc, MSc, MD, FRCPC and Muba Taher BSc, MD, FRCPC are reputable practitioners that are committed to quality patient care. Their office can be reached during business hours at (780) 439-7546. Their state of the art facilities provide a comforting setting, as well as their realization as stated on
their website that it is not always easy to visit the doctor.
Some people have claimed to have great success with
estheticians in treating acne. For me, this has not really been the case. That is why I would not feel comfortable recommending any estheticians in the treatment of this skin disease. Skin care is a routine that we engage in to clean our face from make up and chemicals in the environment. My brother found success in implementing a skin care routine. However, ask your doctor if you unsure whether your acne is mild or needs treatment with proper medical care.
I am excited for next week when I can talk to you about the aftermath of acne. There are so many great procedures available for acne scarring. However, remember that time is a great healer, and scars resolve themselves. What looks terrible to you this year might not even be noticeable to you in 10 months.
